A bitter conflict ensued, resulting in an escalating cycle of atrocities committed by both sides. On January 31, 1874, the gang robbed the Iron Mountain Railroad train in Wayne County, Missouri. For the next fifteen years they robbed banks and when security made that difficult, they turned to stagecoaches and trains. The documentary was dismissed as pseudo history and pseudoscience by historian Nancy Samuelson in a review she wrote for the Winter 20092010 edition of The James-Younger Gang Journal. This extended a measure of protection over the JamesYounger gang by minimizing the incentive for attempting to capture them.
